Chain Study

This study incorporates two motifs that I’ve been wanting to experiment with: fractals and chains. The mixture of organic shapes and general symmetry calls to mind plant life, with the fractal-like forms branching outward in a way that feels self-propagating. The repetition of these shapes creates a sense of structure while maintaining the irregularity found in organic forms.

Juxtaposed with the inorganic–chains–,the fractal-like form becomes tethered to itself. The chains introduce a sense of restriction and containment, contrasting with the natural movement of the organic shapes. Simultaneously, the form’s outer edge remains free from constraint, flowing outward and reaching toward the edge of the page. This contrast between containment and expansion embody the symbolic core of this piece.
